THE GEGEN DEN TOD COLLECTION – FASHION FOR A SECOND SHOT AT LIFE
GIVE YOUR USELESS BODY AND SAVE 7 LIVES
Germany stands at the doorstep of a crisis. Over 9000 patients are in desperate need of a life-saving organ transplant. Yet registered donors are at an all-time low. For every million eligible donors, only eleven people opt-in. There is little hope for those on the waiting list, and it is only getting worse.
Despite the dire situation, the Bundestag voted against the introduction of the widely recognised opt-out system – a change which has significantly aided organ patients in many of Germany’s neighbouring countries. As the debate continues here in Germany, people are dying on the waiting list.
Surprisingly, all that is required to become an organ donor is a signed statement of intent. And that statement can take any form. So, where the Bundestag fails, Gegen den Tod auf der Organ-Warteliste intends to weave the threads of change.
In order to raise awareness of this important issue, and to actively generate more donors in Germany, ten iconic designers have joined forces to fashion progress with the Gegen den Tod Couture Collection - a unique capsule collection designed for people to wear their heart on their sleeve. Each piece of the collection functions as a legitimate statement of the wearer’s intent to donate their organs after death. All that is required is their life-saving signature.
Even the accompanying hangtag has also been designed as a legitimate donor-card, made to fit a wallet.
